The Modernist
algarvian dunes in a hotel patio
The patio of The Modernist hotel in the centre of Faro was like a lawn, on a shallow depth of soil, with little usage. All the rooms windows face this area through the patio the light gets in and one's sheltered from the city.
By using plants from the algarve, specially costal areas, using the different levels of the slab to work and the shape of dunes and having some gres de silves stones in pathways and slopes, visitors can discover some treasures of the Algarve even before leaving the apartment. We also used local cork as mulch, which is a very light and sustainable material.
